DIG DEEPER
THE REALITY OF DEEP SURRENDER
SURRENDER is not an emotion. It is not a vibe. It is not saying: Yeah…I should probably follow God more. SURRENDER moves, it turns, it obeys.
Jonah 3 is powerful because Jonah actually moves to the place he is called. Imperfectly, maybe reluctantly, but he goes. Nineveh also responds. There is a movement. A turning. A repentance. A change.
That matters because lots of people mistake conviction for SURRENDER. We can feel emotional about something yet still stay unchanged. We can agree with God in theory yet still hold back parts of our life.
DEEP SURRENDER is when our ‘YES’ to God is all encompassing of our lives and we see it start to show up in our real choices.
A REAL LIFE PICTURE…
Imagine you are on a bushwalk and you realise that you have taken a wrong turn somewhere and you’re now on the wrong track. You can stop, admit you off course, and even reach out to tell someone. But unless you actually turn around and go back so you can take the right path, nothing changes. DEEP SURRENDER is like that. It is not just admitting you are off track – it is letting God redirect your steps.
REFLECT…
- What is one area where God may already be asking for your DEEP SURRENDER?
- Are you resisting because you are afraid, stubborn, embarrassed, or too keen to keep your comfort?
- Where have you confused feeling convicted with actually surrendering?
- What would a real ‘turn’ look like in your life?
